The Campbell Digital Challenge:

Digital Learning Day

is Wednesday, February 6th 2013

What is digital learning?

Digital learning is any instructional practice that effectively uses technology to strengthen a student's learning experience. Much more than "online learning," digital learning encompasses a wide spectrum of tools and practice, digital learning emphasizes high-quality instruction and provides access to challenging content, feedback through formative assessment, opportunities for learning anytime and anywhere, and individualized instruction to ensure all students reach their full potential to succeed in college and a career.

We are challenging YOU to use a technology tool you have never used before.

Check off which tool you will use and then write a brief description of how you used it (on the attached form).

Submit your form by Friday, February 8th for a chance to win books and other prizes for your classroom.

Heards Ferry Elementary School is Excited about Digital Learning Day

The Media Center at Heards Ferry has planned five great activities, one for each grade level for Digital Learning Day. All the projects are centered around Dr. Seuss and the National Reading month. Starting with the basics, kindergarten will be working on laptops improving their keyboarding skills. First grade will make a powerpoint of a favorite book by Dr. Seuss. Second graders are making a Seuss character analysis using Voki.   Third grade will use Photo Story 3 to make a storyboard of a best-loved Dr. Seuss book.  Fourth graders are making Animotos of their favorite characters in the books.  Fifth graders will be designing comics based on Dr. Seuss characters.  All in all, it will be a very technological Seuss day here in Seussville Media Center, sometimes known Heards Ferry Media Center!

     5th Grade—Living History Research Project

The 5th grade classes are currently working on a semester-long  project exploring different decades. Each class is assigned two decades and their focus revolves around the living representative of the decade. The project will culminate with a “Story Corps-like” recording presenting the research for each decade and the stories about the person from the decade. On Digital Learning Day, students will use iPads to Facetime with some of our “Decade Representatives.” Students will be interviewing them as a part of the project.

 School Wide—Falcon Talk

We’re especially proud of our morning program and Digital Learning Day is a perfect time to showcase it! The show is student produced, with 5th graders running the
production equipment and serving as on-air talent. In addition, we run  three student- produced iMovies on each show—an opening (the current one has a be fit and  Theme) the Pledge of Allegiance, and a closing (showcases the current crew members.) We also have a Word of the Week Feature with two vocabulary words each week. Students perform different tasks related to the words and post their answers on a blog on www.findleyoaksmediacenter.com

On Digital Learning Day, we will also showcase a Black History Month biography and corresponding brief video.
